This blog essay combines two issues of interest to this list, the upcoming
elections in 2026 and AI.

I follow Bruce Schneier on digital security. But I question whether AI is going
to be useful for voter engagement like social media, i.e. Facebook, became to
elections starting in 2008. US lawyers have been getting into legal trouble for
years with their AI-written briefs. That's because courts are evidence based
and lying is supposed to be a crime.

Maybe AI will do better in politics than law since lying is so effective in
politics, but AI is often incorrect and I wonder if the real effectiveness of
AI is on the dark side rather than the engagement side of bourgeois political
elections.

Cambridge Analytica tapped into Facebook's surveillance features to target
messages based on users' online behavior. ChatGPT etc. know quite a bit about
their users too.
