The NYT article on the Supreme Court denying Trump permission to call up the
National Guard to go to Chicago reports, "They [lower court judges] noted that
federal facilities had remained open and that immigration arrests and
deportations had continued at a rapid clip." (

Why were fascist ICE arrests able to continue at a rapid clip? Reuters reports,
"Lawyers for Illinois and Chicago told the justices that the local protests
have 'never hindered the continued operation' of the Broadview facility, and
that state and local authorities have responded to every request for assistance
and contained any sporadic disruption."

That is, while the Trump administration and local Democratic officials contend
in court, the latter deploy police to make sure that ICE terror continues. In
New York, for example, "Multiple people who were protesting possible
Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in Lower Manhattan were arrested
Saturday, the New York Police Department said. The protesters were seen near
Centre Street in Chinatown blocking vehicles and shouting, 'ICE out of New
York,' according to video obtained by ABC News. At one point, the protesters
were observed blocking a van from coming out of a garage..." (

Responding to these arrests, "Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's transition team
released a statement that reads, in part, 'The Mayor-elect has made it clear -
including to the President - that these raids are cruel and inhumane, and fail
to advance genuine public safety.'" (

Mark advises, "We can only watch and hope the courts will stop a military
takeover in US streets." Well, a little more than watch and hope. He goes on,
"The socialist strategy is to organize all of the troops, and especially their
families." Organize them on the grounds that the police will suppress mass
protest? The choice between *demanding a return to ordinary capitalist
repression* versus *organizing for socialist revolution* is no longer just a
debate in small left circles.
