Historically speaking, there has been a lot of that on the left, i.e. our side 
is not free of crudity, vulgarity and rank demagogy, whichever "our side" 
happens to be. But Soviet cartoons before and during Stalin's time avoided the 
antisemitic caricatures of our political opponents. I'd characterize the 1920s 
campaigns against Trotsky, Zinoviev and Kamanev as "dog-whistle racist." 

I think anti-Jewish racism took root in the CPSU well before Stalin's 
ascendency. And in a country that most people who post to this list would agree 
had expropriated its aristocratic and capitalist classes. I worry about what 
that problem means for us, rather than the cartoons of political faction fights.
