*End US Intervention against Venezuela and the Americas*

Statement of the Ukraine Solidarity Network (US)

THE UKRAINE SOLIDARITY NETWORK (U.S.) condemns Trump's imperialist attack on
Venezuela and extralegal kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro Moros and Cilia Flores.

As the Ukrainian democratic socialist organization Sotsialnyi Rukh (Social
Movement) quite rightly states: “The morning of 3 January marks the beginning a
widespread attack on democracy and the relative peace of the peoples of Latin
America – and far beyond.”

The arrogant pronouncements of Donald Trump and Marco Rubio that “we will run
Venezuela” make it clear that drug trafficking allegations against Maduro and
unidentified boat crews were always a smokescreen. The motives for US military
actions in and near Venezuela are oil, minerals, and dominance of Latin America
– exactly as the Trump regime’s new “National Security Strategy” proclaims
Washington's intent to establish uncontested U.S. control of the Western
Hemisphere.

Trump’s “Donroe Doctrine” for the Americas enables and justifies the
annexationist invasion of Ukraine by Putin’s Russia. It invites other
imperialist powers to enforce spheres of influence, one for Russia in line with
Putin’s claim that Russia is the “natural” and inevitable overlord of eastern
Europe, the Caucasus and parts of central Asia, and another for China’s
ambitions to annex Taiwan.

Trump's doctrine fully supports the ongoing Israeli-US genocide in Gaza,
violent settler-military ethnic cleansing in the Palestinian West Bank, and the
drive for mass expulsion of the Palestinian population.

With Putin, Trump seeks to return to might-makes-right, a politics of carving
the globe into zones in which powerful countries dominate their neighbors in
the absence of international law. This is a politics of, by, and for rule of
corporations and oligarchs.

Trump’s attack may have removed Maduro, but it has left the hated Maduro regime
intact. Trump and Rubio make no pretense that they favor any sort of democracy
in Venezuela or anywhere else. They have made clear that their only interests
are oil, money, and power, and that they are willing to make a bargain with the
rump PSUV government, now led by Maduro’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. All
Trump and Rubio want is to move the authoritarian, repressive and deeply
corrupt regime into the column of those that support the United States.

Trump has already signaled that his successful kidnapping of Maduro and Flores
will be followed by a U.S. offensives against Greenland, Cuba, Colombia, Canada
and other Western Hemisphere targets.

We agree with Sotsialnyi Rukh's statement when it says:

"The struggle against Maduro's dictatorship and the struggle against American
imperialism are not mutually exclusive. They are two sides of the same
conflict, in which people become pawns in political games. This is why today we
must speak out in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, the same solidarity
that Venezuelans showed towards Ukraine in its resistance to Russian
aggression."

Just as we support Ukraine’s war for survival and Ukrainian workers’ internal
struggles for their rights, it is essential for progressive and antiwar forces
to stand against Trump’s invasion and to uphold the right of the Venezuelan
people to fight for their own independent and democratic future.

Right now, the leading popular mobilizations in the United States are the
community-based movements to defend immigrant communities from ICE raids and
the Trump regime’s reign of terror. Linking up with this magnificent resistance
at home will be key to developing the broad, mass anti-imperialist struggles
that this dangerous moment so desperately requires.
