1.The latest wave of popular protests started in response to the
dramatic deterioration of the living condition of the masses. While
inflation is soaring, one dollar is trading at around 1.45 million rials
on the open market, compared with about 55,000 rials in 2018, when US
sanctions were reimposed. Nearly a quarter of youth are unemployed. Such
misery is caused by nearly half a century of U.S. sanctions but also of
social inequality resulting from the exploitation of the masses by
Iran’s capitalist class.
