August Nimtz discusses the general strike in his home city of Minneapolis:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbZdlu0SUyY

A strike was called by the Minneapolis AFL-CIO and other unions,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bvrC8p_Nw0:"MINNEAPOLIS – The Minneapolis
Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO along with regional bodies throughout the
state, including the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, the West Area Labor
Council, the North East Area Labor Council and the East Central Labor Council,
have joined in solidarity to endorse a powerful unified statewide action on
January 23: Day of Truth and Freedom." The CWA and other unions were apparently
involved as well as were a Teamsters local,

This call is being replicated in other cities - a general strike was called for
Portland today, Sunday, and one of the leaders mentioned that this was a way of
working towards a general strike despite there has been no organizing to date.

The next question that pops into my mind is "what's the end game?" In 1934 in
Minneapolis, San Francisco/Oakland, Toledo and other cities had strikes that
turned into general strikes that shut down cities and led the employers to
reconsider their tactics. We know that the breakthrough of industrial unionism
followed these strikes.

What is the target and goals of a general strike today? Will Trump mind if a
city is shut down while he ramps up federal police intervention in the city?
Are we creating coalitions of working people that develop strategy and tactics
to continue until demands are met. In the video above, Nimtz cites Lenin's
distinction between active boycotts and passive boycotts; and example of the
latter would include boycotting elections, lettuce, and other things, but the
former involve organization, organizing, strikes and other actions. Nimtz
commented that he wasn't sure which is happening in Minneapolis.
