Hari, you ask a good question. Avi Lewis said he was dissatisfied with the way in which the vetting committee proceeded, but did not say more. Nor has he explained what role, if any, the party's vetting committee should play in allowing candidates to qualify. This disappointed many of Avi's supporters, including myself of course, but I have to say it is consistent with Avi Lewis's failure to say much about what his promised reform of the NDP's organizational practices would mean, other than some rather vague commitments to future reforms that would assign a greater role to the membership. An internal grouping within the party, self-identified as Courage, is proposing a set of changes in the party's internal regime and practices for adoption at the federal convention in late March, where the leadership contest will be decided. I think most if not all the Courage supporters will also be supporting Avi Lewis, many of them hoping he will support their effort.
