*Sri Lanka: The pro-IMF “Left-Wing” Government Prepares for Repression
of Popular Protests*

The current Sri Lankan N.P.P. government is working to implement IMF
conditions within a new liberal capitalist framework, while cutting down
public rights and placing all oppressive burdens on the people. In order
to suppress the forces that can resist this, they are attempting to
introduce an extremely repressive law, even harsher than previous
repressive acts – the (P.S.T.A.) Anti-Terrorism Act – to “protect” the
government from terrorism.
