In this article, Luis Bonilla-Molina makes no mention of the US naval blockade of Venezuela. US forces have seized control of 9 ships containing oil being exported from Venezuela, and stolen the oil.
In theory, there are several ways in which the Venezuelan government could react. It could follow the example of the Ansarallah (Houthi) government of northern Yemen, and use rockets and drones to attack US warships in the Caribbean. This would lead to massive retaliation by the US, causing many casualties and severe damage. But if there were also some US casualties, it might cause questioning of the blockade by people in the US. Alternatively, the Venezuelan government could accept that its oil industry will be largely shut down. It could focus on developing other industries. This would be difficult with the blockade restricting the import of machinery and spare parts and the export of Venezuelan goods. The third option is the one chosen by the Delcy Rodriguez government. That is, making concessions to foreign capital and talking to the US in a conciliatory tone, in the hope that the blockade will be eased. This is obviously unsatisfactory. But Bonilla-Molina gives no indication of what alternative he advocates. For those of us living in the US and its allies such as Australia, the key task is to campaign against the blockade.
