Nobody knows how the war will develop from here, but it’s easy to see why the attention of millions will be focused on that rather than the struggle of the Kurdish people in Iraq, or really anywhere else in Kurdistan. And yet, the two are intimately connected; it’s impossible to fully understand how the world got here without understanding the role of the Kurdish struggle throughout Kurdistan. That’s what gives the topic added importance if it weren’t important enough in its own right. We start from that point of view."
This article covers the development of the main Kurdish political parties and their relationship to the class struggle in Iraq as well as to U.S. imperialism. It includes a recounting of the Anfil campaign, which was a genocidal campaign against the Kurdish people... and more. We also make a point about Arab nationalism - which was the Ba'ath Party. That was a movement against US and European imperialism, but one without a base in class struggle against the capitalists. Look at the result - Assad and Saddam Hussein - two bitter oppressors of both the working class in general as well as of the Kurdish people. Today we must not ignore the fact that some of the Kurdish parties are willing to work with the US and Israel. By doing so, they invite a future Anfil.
