I feel the need to mention that the translation of Losurdo's book into English is mine. It is acknowledged within the text but otherwise neither Rockhill nor Monthly Review have ever mentioned me, with the project, which was originally for a different publisher and headed by a different person who were cut out of it for reasons I have never understood entirely but seem to be sectarian in nature, ending up as a launching pad for Rockhill's own work.
I am not sure why a book with a single author, translated directly from the original Italian text by me needs to have an "editor" let alone one listed on the front cover. The translation remains my own, faithful to Losurdo's work, so what exactly was "edited" is not apparent to me. I had many issues with the content of what Losurdo argued. At the time, an adjunct professor and sometimes translator, I was broke and needed a job and getting paid to translate a Marxist work, even a flawed one, was a welcome opportunity to feed my family. I also try to avoid sectarianism, so my sharp disagreement with much of Losurdo's argument was not a deal-breaker. And I thought the perspective a useful correction to both postmodernism and to often unfair expectations of leftist governments for not immediately establishing communism under underdeveloped economic conditions and US embargo and hostility. That Rockhill then immediately pit this argument on steroids, took credit for Losurdo's work, never once mentioning me and my work in translating it and took it to absurdity in his own book, has all left a bad taste in my mouth, especially as I am as far from a campist as one can imagine in my own Marxism.
