*Does Taiwan Have a Right of National Self-Determination?*

*/Reply to a polemic by the Argentinean Partido Obrero/*

/By Michael Pröbsting, RCIT, 27 April 2026/

A few weeks ago, we published a pamphlet in which critically dealt with the current debate about the class character of China in the Argentinean Partido Obrero (PO). In this debate, the majority defends (in a modified form) their long-standing position that China (and Russia) is not imperialist and that capitalist restoration is still not completed as the bourgeoisie is not the ruling class. Consequently, these comrades advocate to side with China in the conflict with U.S. imperialism about control of Taiwan.

There also exist two minority currents in PO – one which holds a position close to that of the PTS/CPR-FI (that China is not an imperialist power yet) and another one which basically shares the RCIT’s position that capitalist restoration has been completed and that China is an imperialist power.

Some days ago, PO published another contribution to this debate. In the article the author, Daniel Rapanelli, a leading proponent of the majority position, polemicises against those who defend Taiwan’s right of national self-determination.
