Answers to your question: (Thanks for your help)
1. Yes I can ping the linux box, while being on the linux box by pinging
192.168.1.1
2. Yes, the eth0 on the linux box has a link light.
3. on the NT box, I can ping itself (by doing a ping 192.168.1.2 on the
NT box)  But no, I can't ping the NT box from the linux box (192.168.1.1)
