I don't know what kernel or distribution you are running.

Kernels 2.0.35 and 2.0.36 have the ability to masq icmp but it is a separate
configuration option when you compile the kernel.  Verify that you did
enable this option or recompile the kernel.

Earlier kernels do not support ICMP masqing (it won't work) and you'll need
to upgrade.

(If you are running RedHat 5.2 this is enabled already, you do not need to
recompile)
