I'm trying to make a connection (actually many) to web sites ending in
.gov, but I never get past the lookup, connection and then a belated
'transferring data' that never finishes.

I'm using IPChains: ipchains 1.3.8, 27-Oct-1998

I can ping the site (www.gsa.gov)

PING 159.142.1.200 (159.142.1.200): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 159.142.1.200: icmp_seq=0 ttl=238 time=286.9 ms
64 bytes from 159.142.1.200: icmp_seq=1 ttl=238 time=260.1 ms
64 bytes from 159.142.1.200: icmp_seq=2 ttl=238 time=251.7 ms

PING www.gsa.gov (159.142.1.200): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 159.142.1.200: icmp_seq=0 ttl=238 time=299.3 ms
64 bytes from 159.142.1.200: icmp_seq=1 ttl=238 time=308.4 ms
64 bytes from 159.142.1.200: icmp_seq=2 ttl=238 time=260.1 ms

Here's my IPChains info:

Chain input (policy ACCEPT):
target prot opt source destination ports
DENY all ------ !192.168.1.0/24 anywhere n/a
DENY all ------ 192.168.1.0/24 anywhere n/a
Chain forward (policy DENY):
target prot opt source destination ports
MASQ all ------ 192.168.1.0/24 anywhere n/a
Chain output (policy ACCEPT):

Any ideas? All other sites seem fine from the LAN, and this Linux box can
pull up www.gsa.gov in no time.

Thanks in advance. Note, I've been using IPChains for about 5 days, but
I've read all I can on the issue.

After this, I need to figure out how to speed up POP3!
