There's a sort of a mindset in the Free Software community, that free
software is not really free.. It doesn't require any monetary input,
but it can often consume substantial time and effort to learn about how
it works, and how to use it. I think that's an intentional thing,
because learning is always a nice goal. :)
I recall that I had some trouble building this software, too, but I
didn't have too much trouble, really.

I'm running Slackware 3.0(something) here. Very old. :)

This can actually a browser problem. Older browsers sometimes recognize
that a file is gzip-compressed, and try to help you out by uncompressing
the file for you. These same browsers, though, forget to rename the
file without the .gz extension! The result, a file named *.gz that
isn't gzipped!

You only need to change the root Makefile. It passes the setting to the
others.

Sounds like you ran 'make install' in every directory except the right
one.. the root directory. This is quite standard for most every package
you build from source under Linux. I would presume that you're running
Slackware because you like doing things yourself. If you don't, then
why run Slackware? You could use a packaged distribution, such as Red
Hat, or Debian. Juanjo was kind enough to include RPM's for his
utility. :)

Nope. I'm using libc5 as well. In general, compiling from source means
you won't have library problems.

Not very... It does say later than 2.1.90, and 2.2.5 is definitely
later. :)
In short, I'm running 2.2 with ipmasqadm 0.4.2 on my Slackware system,
and it works just fine. It will for you, too. :)
