I successfully set up IP Masquerade with my @home cablemodem going to the
uplink of a hub, a linux box running ip masq, and 2 windows boxes also on
the hub. I am running red hat 6.0.
I also setup a firewall script based on rimboy's @home firewall script.
The web and e-mail seem to work fine on the 2 windows machines.
However, I have some major and minor problems with other applications.
ICQ goes offline without warning on occasion. Seems quite random. Doesnt
happen too frequently, but it occured about 5 or 6 times today. I am running
the module ip_masq_icq.
I cannot connect to any irc servers in mIRC. They all disconnect me with
various messages such as "No Reason", "You are not authorized..." "Install
identd".
I installed midentd, which is a version of identd that supports ip masq. But
this made things worse. Before I used to be able to use irc on the linux
host machine. Now i cant do that either!
Also, before I was running IP masq, i ran an ftp server on my windows
machine. It seems no one can connect to it anymore now that it's behind the
ip masq. How can I fix this? I tried this command in my firewall script to
open the port (69) which i am using the for the server, but it didn't work:
ipchains -A input -p tcp -s "24.113.133.69/32" -d 0/0 69 -j ACCEPT
if i could get some assistance on any (hopefully all) of these problems,
that would be much appreciated. thanks.
