Regarding this comment, it's my experience that IPAUTOFW is harmless
when merely compiled into the kernel.  It should never be necessary to
remove it in order to solve a problem.

The only time IPAUTOFW is harmful is when using it to forward large
ranges of ports.  And in fact, this is only harmful to the operation of
the masq box itself (in regards to local socket services).  It is not
harmful at all the the clients behind the masq box.
