Before I proceed to make my Linux box serve more than one
domain, I wanted to check here for any known problems or
gotchas.
Let me recap my understanding of masquerading to confirm it.
There are several kinds of masquerade:
- IP Masquerade: Sharing of one IP for multiple private
computers. This works fine for me today with RH5.2.
- Domain Masquerade: Using one server to serve multiple
domains. This can be done using either:
- Separate IP addresses per domain: Not for me. I only have
one static IP and only one public server.
- Single IP address for all domains: As discussed in this
group, Apache can deal with this nicely as per:
http://www.apache.org/docs/vhosts/name-based.html .
However, are there any issues/pitfalls in setting up DNS
for multiple domains with one IP address?
- Email Masquerade: Sendmail can be configured to appear and
respond as the email server for multiple domains as in:
http://www.sendmail.org/virtual-hosting.html . Are there any
gotchas here? Is it even possible for email to appear as
though it is virtually from separate domains?
Many thanks for the pointers.
Jim
