What does your /etc/resolv.conf file look like?
Test your DNS servers:
Run "nslookup" and at the ">" prompt, type in "server <xyz>" where <xyz>
is one IP address from the defined DNS servers from /etc/resolv.conf file.
Now type in "www.yahoo.com" and see how fast it works.
[Repeat for ALL defined DNS servers]
I have a feeling that your primary defined DNS server is NOT working
properly and the slowness is due to the primary entry timeing out
but the secondary defined server is working fine.
