Early 2008 - apparently the Essex County Sheriff hire someone to plan
the construction of a countywide 911 center.

If you look at Washington DC, it is surrounded by Montgomery County
MD, Prince Georges County MD, Alexandria VA, Arlington County VA, and
Fairfax County VA. All of these jurisdictions have 911 centers -
either countywide or citywide. (I suspect that there might be a few
oddball 911 PSAPs in the area - Pentagon, Andrews AFB, Naval District
Washington, CIA HQ, Fort Myers, Metro Airports (National / Reagan &
Dulles).

Philadelphia is similar. Philly is surrounded by Montgomery County PA,
Delaware County PA, Chester County PA, Burlington County NJ, and
Camden County NJ. Again - all of those jurisdictions have countywide
or citywide 911 centers.

Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles - they have regional 911 / dispatch
centers in their suburbs. Not countywide - regional.

North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida - there are many many
countywide 911 centers in those states.

The New York City area is more city by city - town by town - 911
centers. Of course NYC has 1 huge 911 PSAP at the NYPD - with seperate
dispatch centers for FDNY / EMS.
