<http://www.wildlandfire.com/theysaid.htm> - there is talk here of taking the USDA and DOI out of the firefighting business
Lets look at the big picture - the wildfire agencies now have : air tankers (big and small) - helicopters (big and small) - hand crews (maybe 100 of 20 each) - plus oncall hand crews - plus fire camp crews (kitchens and showers) - big pumpers and little pumpers - bulldozers - stations in remote areas - maybe 2000 pumpers at most - maybe 100 helos - maybe 50 airtankers - plus oncall private resources and military backup - the pumpers have smaller pumps than city pumpers but that is just about the only major vehicle difference (Jaws, ground ladders, SCBA are other differences) One other major difference is the staffing - most wildfire units staff up in the summer - and work mostly daytimes - with pumper crews oncall at night ----------------------------------------------------- Just thinking out loud - if you put SCBA on all of the pumpers - what would you have then? Wouldnt that be the "USA Rural Fire Department"? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
