Question : Why is Tewksbury transporting to Lahey? Answer : The State trauma plan calls for a critical victim with low BP to go to a Level 1, 2, or 3 trauma center. If transport time is extended, consideration is to be given to using a helicopter to transport the patient to a Level 1 trauma center with a helipad.
Lawrence General Hospital and Saints Hospital are both Level 3 trauma centers. Lahey is a level 2 trauma center. Apparently it was decided that travelling a little further to reach a Level 2 trauma center is in the best interest of the patient.
