Winchester MA FD responded to Winchester Hospital for a Code Red in the basement laundry. Either a CO detector or a heat detector had activated, but there was no emergency situation. I noticed that portable radio 201 (apparently the Incident Commander), when in the basement, was dropping in and out of the 483.6875 repeater. It was not a major detriment to the communications flow during this minor incident. But something tells me that if they were crawling around in the basement during a real fire, the portable radios probably would have been useless via the repeater system.
