just for the record Boston EMS receives aid / backup from private ambulance companies but not from Watertown FD nor Cambridge FD nor MIT Ambulance nor Northeastern University Ambulance nor Needham FD. Nor does it ever request any first responder backup from any adjacent FDs.
Boston EMS rarely provides backup to any other agency. Boston EMS has no contact with any out of town ambulances that transport patients to Boston hospitals. Many fire departments transport patients to Boston hospitals but they are never used to respond to nearby calls in Boston. Boston EMS would need to contact a fire department dispatcher via telephone; and then hope that the FD dispatcher could reach the FD ambulance in Boston via radio. 453.10 R is used by BEMS to request backup from private ambulances. Some of the private ambulance provide 911 service to some of the suburbs. Some of the private ambulance companies do not have any 911 (municipal emergency) contracts - such as McCalls. All of the private ambulance companys operate ALS and BLS ambulances (maybe a 50/50 split). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
