EMS Treatment Protocols in Massachusetts - 2013
Here is the answer to my previously posted question about Emergency!
For cardiac arrest in Massachusetts, the only drugs that are used are
- epiniphrine, maybe atropine, maybe sodium bicarbonate, and maybe 1
other. (You can see the info in the very first listings in the
Protocols).
Basic care for cardiac arrest is ->>> CPR + oxygen + shock (if not asystole)
I think the comments about "asystole" indicates that - asytole means
there is no electrical activity from the heart - the only way to
measure this is with an EKG machine - since medics are the only people
equipped with EKG machines, they are the only people that can confirm
asystole.
(Apparently an AED does not detect asystole - but that doesnt really
jive with the comment ('dont shock asystole') - ???)
