The Hamilton and Wenham stations are 1 mile apart - 2 minute travel time The next closest fire station is North Beverly at 2.75 miles approx at 6 to 8 minutes
All other nearby stations are 10 minutes or more away. Putting this all together - I suspect that the best solution is using public safety officers in mini vans with big fire extinguishers and SCBA and medic gear. One of the real problems is that major emergencies are extremely rare. False alarms are plentiful - as are routine EMS calls. Everything else is rare. But they could have an explosion with 100 victims at a school, church, or club. They could have 2 buses crash with 100 victims. They could have a terror attack on a train with 200 victims. A major earthquake could produce 1,000 victims. Train the DPW to be a CERT team - and merge the police/fire/amb - thats my best cure at this point. If they continue to have 7 minute turnout times - they might as well not even respond. North Beverly, Topsfield, and Ipswich could handle their calls for them nearly just as quickly, I will look more closely at Wenham spending next. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
