Since 2000, Boise Fd has absorbed 2 nearby fire protection districts. In 2000 ish - Whitney FPD was merged with Boise FD.
In 2010 ish - North Ada FPD was merged into Boise FD. You can find more info at the Whitney and North Ada FD websites. More details - Basically it seems that both FPDs were going down the drain and they could not keep their stations open. So they signed interlocal government agreements with Boise FD to have Boise Fd staff their stations. At this point - the 2 FPDs own all of their stations and equipment - and they have elected commisioners who set their tax rate - but all staffing is provided by Boise FD. I think that Whitney FPD had 2 or 3 stations. I think that all 3 Whitney stations have been closed now. The last Whitney station to close was in 2012 when Sta 22 closed with units being moved to Boise Sta 15. North Ada had 3 stations. Their latest / newest station was never staffed. Their 2nd station was closed around 2000. Just 1 North Ada station remains open (staffed by BFd as we said earlier). All info is approx - I am working off my memory and my sparse notes. Like I said - you can hit the FD websites for the real deal. On another note - Boise FD recently broke ground on 2 replacement stations - with 2 more replacement stations in the pipeline. Locations will pretty much stay the same. They passed a bond bill in 2014 with 76% approval. One last note - the area just N of Boise seems to be protected by Idaho State Forestry - with 1 big station in Boise. The land is actually in Boise County - not Ada County. And there seems to be a big area of rangeland south of Boise that has no fire stations. ??????? Maybe BLM helps in that area. USFS has very little resources in the area - just 1 helitack base and 1 pumper to East - and 1 pumper in Mtn View. There are approx 12 FDs around Boise that have 1 to 5 stations. They span a 3 or 4 county area. One part of northern Ada County is covered by a Rangeland Fire Association. Which is interesting. You have 1 or 2 ranchers who are the only thing standing between a rangefire and the north side of Boise. Maybe there are some fire aircraft operating out of Boise Airport. Maybe a BLM helo and a SEAT or two. Maybe a type 1 helo also - ????? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
