2:29 PM (1 minute ago) to me Successful Message Transmission The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) conducted a national test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) with radio, TV, and cable stations today, Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 2:20 pm EDT. The test lasted approximately one minute and verified the successful message transmission and broadcast of a national test message. EAS participants are reminded that they should complete FCC ETRS Form 2 before 11:59 PM EDTindicating if they received the message and if they successfully forwarded the message. Significant coordination and regional testing was conducted with the broadcast community and emergency managers in preparation for this EAS national test. The test is intended to ensure public safety officials have the methods and systems that will deliver urgent alerts and warnings to the public in times of an emergency or disaster. Periodic testing of public alert and warning systems is also a way to assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure required for the distribution of a national message and determine what technological improvements need to be addressed.
