there are 47 prefectures in japan - they are analogous to states in the usa
there are 1,718 local governments - cities + towns + villages there are no prefecture wide FDs afaik - there are some regional FDs that cover more than 1 local govt unit so - bottom line - the Japan fire service is very similar to the usa fire service - except that japan FDs have volunteers in the big cities - but they only respond to major disasters (usually) perhaps the volunteers only respond to disasters in any area where there are fulltime paid firefighters - maybe in rural areas that dont have paid firefighters, then the volunteers become the 'primary' firefighters the federal fire agency and the prefecture fire staff are primarily focused on mutual aid coordination and recruit training - maybe - (again - much the same as the USA) - and it is mostly common sense - fires dont usually spread to cover an entire prefecture or the entire country wildfires are not a major issue in japan apparently -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
