I looked into this. You just have to install (copy) the BaKoMa fonts (TrueType version of the Computer Modern fonts) into your system's font dir, so the svg viewer can see them. These fonts are located in the "matplotlib/mpl-data/fonts/ttf" dir (the cm*.ttf files).
