You'll need to get easy_install to use the right Python anyway, but do
you need to build MPL? can you use the binary:
matplotlib-0.98.3-py2.5-macosx-10.3.egg
(note that that is OS-X 10.3 and above)
you may have to re-name it to:
matplotlib-0.98.3-py2.5.egg
to get easy_install to recognize it.
