This is more of a unix scripting question than a Mauve question. One way to do it would be to write a for loop in your shell (bash? csh? korn shell?) that counts down from a large number and exits the loop when it finds the alignmentN that exists. Typing "shell for loop" in your favorite search engine will get you some ideas. And there are surely other ways to solve the problem that don't involve for loops. -- Aaron E.
