Is this for home?  Are you hooking it up to a DSL or cable modem?  I 
don't have exact figures, but my DSL connection speeds went down when 
I started using my IIci as a router/firewall using NetBSD.  I haven't 
tweaked it you though and it's still faster than dialup.  After 
upgrading ipfilter on it (during which I'll do a custom kernel build) 
I'll investigate the things that have downgraded my performance and 
then tweak them to get my speeds back up.

FYI, the built in routing/firewall software built into NetBSD is 
robust enough for commercial use so there is something to NetBSD.
