Er...  Perhaps you're confusing the "Max" list with the "Swap" list.
This is indeed a "help desk", as you call it.  Taken from this list's
description on the low end mac site:

"MaX is a forum for people using (or wanting to use) Linux, NetBSD, or
some other Unix-derived OS on Macintosh hardware. It's especially
intended as a place newbies can ask questions and receive help from
those who have been there."

At least check what list address a post is coming to before you knock
somebody, okay?  Can we talk about Macs again now?
