Type of system?
Version of OS X?

If you added a ADB tablet (and still use 9.1), I could infer the
system is a beige Mac (UnSupported). If that is the case, the Startup
Disk Control Panel is not reliable. Use the System Disk utility
provided by Apple with early versions of Darwin, it works better on
the beige Macs.

I have found that OS X 10.2 will only boot if I use XpostFacto to set
the boot volume. I had no problems using System Disk with 10.0.x and
10.1.x (on my 9600).
