I thought the StarMax was a CHRP machine so it could
boot another OS directly? I could be wrong...

Even if you can boot directly, you'll need to create
a swap partition; 100-200MB will be enough in most
circumstances. My experience says that having a
separate /home partition is also a good idea; it lets
you replace the distribution. Unless you're doing
something like editing video, you need a lot less space
in /home than you'd think.
