Thanks to all you guys who have answered my questions over the past couple months.  
Looking back at the archives, I've been asking quite a few.  :)  

I am going to take another stab at installing Jaguar tomorrow night.  Your comments 
have helped me scrap the ideas of a separate Jag swap partition (for now) and 
installing Linux on the same disk.  I still have my original 6 GB drive, so perhaps in 
the future I could put Linux and swap partitions on it.  On my old machine, putting 
swap on a separate drive may give a noticeable boost.

I've found several methods on the 'net (notably macosxhints) for moving directories to 
other disk partitions.  Primarily it's mounting vs symlinking.  What is the collective 
voice of experience here?  Is there any single surefire method?
