Hi,
"Auto Login" only removes the initial login, it does not have a login dialog "never have it come up again." Even with "Auto Login", you will need to use login/password info to do certain tasks like install software. Most people don't do those tasks often, and if you use "Auto Login" you will be scrambling to remember your password when you need it. If your system asks for your password everyday, you remember it.
True. If you want an account with no password so that when you're asked for a password you just hit return, all you have to do is create a new account with no password and give it admin access. Then use that account for everything.
With all the Windows security problems lately ( only a matter of time before other OS's are affected ), are you _sure_ you don't need security?
No, it's not just "a matter of time". Windows is inherently insecure because of its fundamental design. Unix isn't just going to become insecure one day just because Windows is secure.
Also, I think the question was not worded properly. I doubt anyone would ever want to get rid of "security", as nebulous a suggestion as that is, but they would rather have a system configured to assume that physical access equals system access, which is quite reasonable.
Locking and unlocking the door on my truck is annoying, but I do it for a reason. My two cents.
Your car is generally used in public, yes? Their iMac is in their home.
Every modern Unix system I know doesn't allow remote login with an empty password - just a thought.
