prob 1: during the installation both the network cards ie ethernet and
wireless were identified correctly and installed but as i see the
system now, the airport card, though displayed in the device mgr
correctly is not listed in the network devices and neither can i use
it in any other way.

I can't really help here as I have never used wireless for networking.
However, from what I know of it, you may need to download firmware for the wireless chipset separately ( it is non-free software ) and install it in a directory so the driver can push the firmware into the chipset when it initializes.

prob 2: this is probably a more imp problem. i have a internet
connection through LAN. i have a default gateway as 11.120.76.121 and
a internet proxy server as 11.120.78.2. though i am able to browse the
network as such i am unable to connect to the internet. i have tried
setting the default gateway as both the gateway and the proxy but no
joy. and i have already set the proxy in the network proxy
configuration.

Since you have two interfaces, it is possible your desktop network tool is setting your wireless as a default even though it is not active. If that is the case, the route to the gateway is via a non-functioning interface. Can you ping other nodes on the LAN, specifically the gateway?

despite the fact that OSX as such has
no problems connecting to the internet. this is a big problem since i
am unable to update or install any new program in ubuntu.

In OS X, test which setting is providing access for you.
First set the gateway to something bogus, and see if your connectivity is OK.
If it is, that means OS X is using the proxy setting for access.
Set the proxy settings to something bogus and see if connectivity is still OK.

I suspect the proxy setting is the one that is providing connectivity. OS X makes it easy for applications to use the system-wide proxy setting, while in Linux most times you must configure each application separately to use the proxy.

prob 3: i divided my HDD into 3 partitions with 20 GB as FAT32 so that
i could use it as a common data drive between ubuntu and OSX but the
problem is, it is mounting only in ubuntu. i have tried editing the
/etc/fstab file in OSX as well as thorough the disk utility program
but am unable to use it in OSX. is there anyway by which i can use a
partition in both the operating systems?

I have found you may have to format the partition from OS X for it to use a FAT partition in order to use it. Is there a reason you did not try UFS instead? That filesystem will maintain permissions between the two operating systems. You'll have to make sure the user ID's are the same between the two operating systems for that to work properly.
