No problems with the partitioning.. u should be able to format the linux partition only during the linux install. i have a powerbook G4 1.25GHz... i have been able to shift between YDL and ubuntu... though right now i am sticking to ubuntu. > > 2. Partition sizes. I see that YDL 4.0 recommends 1MB for boot, 512MB > for swap (or equal to RAM), and 2+ GB for a personal desktop install.=20 > Should I use a bigger install partition to accomodate stored files and > possible distro changes (from #1)? What would be a safe size to cover > all distros? at present i am using bootstrap partition at 1MB and a /user partition with 10GB and a / partition with 10GB.. all of them except the bootstrap are well in excess... I guess charles suggestions about the partitions are much better > 3. File systems. I think I've read that the Linux and Mac OSs can't > read each other's file systems. I have been able to use the OSX partitions using linux but vice-versa has been a major diaster.. there is a program called hfs as well as hfsplus in ubuntu... YDL also should have a similar program using which we can mount and write to hfs partitions using linux without too many problems... i hope that has been of some help.. like u am also a linux newbie with just 1 month linux experience! praveen kumar -- MaX-list is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> MaX-list info: <http://lowendmac.com/linux/max.shtml> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[email protected]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/max-list%40mail.maclaunch.com/> iPod Accessories for Less at 1-800-iPOD.COM Fast Delivery, Low Price, Good Deal www.1800ipod.com
