The only problem I had was with applying the logs automatically using scripts. About half the time the apply process described in the SAPDB documentation hangs if try to use the script. I have tried quite a few variations of the script but could not get it succeed consistently. I have finally resigned to applying the logs once or twice a week manually using the 7.3 DBMGUI. If I try to use a higher version of DBMGUI it fails. When restoring a standby database with data from the original database, you can also use log backups instead of incremental backups, to keep the standby database as up to date as possible.
