I have installed MaxDB 7.5 alpha 2 (7.5.01.00) on Windows 2000 with no
errors; but, using the database manager, am unable to register an
database instance as the name of the machine - the following error is
given:

-24965 logon to system failed [user_system ...] A required privilege is
not held by the client.

Note I have tried this after registering the server.

If I try to create the database with the installation wizard with the
Database Manager with the <local> server the following error is given.

-24988 sql error [db_activate admin,foobar]

The database appears in admin mode but is not is a good state:

The DBM->diagnosis files->Utility Statements Indicate a return code of
7017 (User not allowed)

Nothing in Database errors, etc

The user in question is the domain administrator. The Windows setup here
has been modified from the default so that the Domain Security Policy ->
User Rights setup has 'Log on as batch Job' and 'Log on as Service'
added to Administrators and specifically the domain Administrator.
(Note that the local administrator policy was set the same way.)
Searching through the documentation and news groups yields little on
what needs to be set.

I am logged in through the console and am not using terminal server,
etc.

Am I missing some additional policy, or something else?

Should I try this while being logged in as the local administrator
instead?

Any help will be appreciated!

TIA!
