Seems this problem has been around earlier (see http://archives.neohapsis.com/archives/dev/sapdb/2004-q1/0925.html for details on that); anyhow I am using current maxDB drivers as well to connect from Windows XP (Professional SP 2) to a maxDB server atop Debian GNU/Linux, works without problems...
