Kevin,

This is not really a good idea with a database that is
currently running. The backup software will only be able
to capture each file a few chunks at a time so the file
you start to backup won't really be the same by the time
you finish (i.e. it's a moving target as you are backing it up).

My guess is that your are going to run into lots of
integrity issues when you restore and attempt to 
restart the db.
