We explored using Veritas for our MaxDB instances but I wanted to take a crack at writing something myself. I wrote scripts that make full backups with date/time stamps in the name to keep them unique. I also modified the same scripts to generate unique log backups. The full backup scripts use 3 or 4 Median files while the log backups generate unique Medians and delete older ones (after a few days). These scripts are fired off using Windows Scheduler. It's not the easiest system to use, but we didn't have to spend money buying plugins for Veritas. I've tested restores and everything restored back nicely. Basically I have emulated how MS SQL Server handles backups automatically.

It talks about using the BACKINT executable to run database backups for MaxDB. I am still sifting through the rubble on this but would appreciate any tips from users who have this in place. Or if not this any other software/suggestions to help out with this.
