*The Magic Bell* Once a theft had occurred in an inn. All the ways the police had tried, but none succeded. Finally the police came up with a unique method. The police gathered all the suspects in a place where a bell had been attached. Then he gave the instruction. "That bell is a magic bell. Please all of you one by one go pass this tunnel. And when you go pass that bell, I want you to touch it. If you are really the thief, the magic bell will sound itself when you touch it," explained the police. When everything had been understood clearly, the lamp was switched of and the whole room went pitch black. However it was strange because even after everyone had went through the tunnel, the bell still had not sounded itself. The lamp was then switched on. The suspects were asked to row a line and show their palms. It was from this inspection, that the thief was found. It was then explained by the police that the bell had actually been smeared with a special ink. They who did not commit the theft, were not afraid to touch them that their hands caught the ink. On the contrast, the thief, who was in fear and cautious, did not dare to touch the bell that his hand remained clean. In the dark, nobody could see what was happening, so the thief took advantage of it which actually revealed his true identity. There is a Chinese proverb saying, 'If you did not commit any wrongdoing, you do not need to fear that ghost will knock on your door.' (无事不怕鬼叫门 wu shi bu pa gui jiao men)

Dengan segala cara yang ada polisi tidak berhasil menemukan pencurinya. Akhirnya polisi menggunakan suatu cara yang unik. Polisi mengumpulkan para tersangka di suatu tempat di mana telah dipasang sebuah lonceng, lalu ia memberikan pengarahan. "Lonceng itu adalah lonceng ajaib. Silakan Anda satu per satu berjalan melewati lorang ini. Dan ketika Anda melewati lonceng itu, saya minta Anda memegangnya. Jika Anda memang pencurinya, lonceng itu akan berbunyi ketika Anda pegang," jelas polisi. Setelah semua mengerti, lampu segera dipadamkan dan ruangan seketika menjadi gelap. Anehnya, ketika semua orang telah melewati gang, tidak terdengar bunyi lonceng sama sekali. Lampu pun dinyalakan. Para tersangka diminta berbaris sambil menunjukkan telapak tangan mereka. Dari pemeriksaan inilah ditemukan pencurinya. Ternyata lonceng tersebut telah diolesi dengan sejenis tinta. Mereka yang tidak mencuri, tidak takut untuk memegangnyasehingga telapak tangan mereka terkena noda tinta. Sebaliknya, orang yang mencuri, merasa takut dan tidak berani menyentuhnya-sehingga telapak tangannya tetap bersih. Dalam keadaan gelap, tidak ada yang dapat melihat apa yang terjadi, maka si pencuri mengambil kesempatan ini yang justru membuka kedoknya.
