Now that I understand what my problem was, either will work for me. In order 
for the height vector to make sense, though, it seems to me that it should 
behave differently depending on the setting of page coordinates to 
pdf.kpcTopDown or pdf.kpcBottomUp so that the height will generally be a 
positive value for a "normal" PDF page, regardless of the page coordinates in 
use...
