As a quick thought, the unfreeze after 10 minutes is probably the Fixture TimeOut kicking in. I think the default is 10 minutes and it can be changed through an attribute on the fixture.
Also I think there is a bug where certain failure cases (especially with timeouts) cause MbUnit to report more failures. (I think I might be 10 tests in the fixture that timed out + 8 tests run before timeout.) Honestly whenever I'm usually more worried about why the tests are timing out and once I get them green, the problem goes away, I really should log a bug about it.
