Hi folks! Did anyone actually tried to copy > 45000 files??? -- Sincerely yours, Yury V. Zaytsev
-------- Forwarded Message -------- From: ds <dk...@skynet.be> Subject: [Pkg-mc-devel] midnight commander bug Date: Mon, 30 Aug 2010 12:09:07 +0200 Hello, I have used midnight commander since many years (i guess since 1997) and have never encountered any problems until this weekend: while making a backup from a windows 7 install on an ext2 - partitioned disk, midnight commander (under slackware 13.1, 64bit) simply stopped after copying about 45000 files from the 65000 files of the "windows"-directory of a windows 7 install. I did not get any error message from mc, that's why, initially, I thought all files were copied until I double checked. A "sysctl -a" showed me that fs.file-max was set to 204334, so, the problem was not due to the linux kernel settings. Because I was to lazy to use the cp -r command I rebooted the system under debian lenny 5.0.6 (amd 64 bit version) and used mc to copy the same windows 7 backup. Again, midnight commander just stopped after about 45000 files without any error message. Finally I managed to copy all files by using "cp -r". By the way, are there any good alternatives for midnight commander under blackbox or fluxbox windowmanager ( I never use KDE or GNOME and their libraries because these are too bulky, unreliable and unsecure) ? kind regards, Dirk Scheerlinck, Belgium _______________________________________________ Pkg-mc-devel mailing list pkg-mc-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-mc-devel _______________________________________________ mc-devel mailing list http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/mc-devel
